Irene Dyk-Ploss

Irene Josefa Dyk-Ploss (* 29. August 1947 as Irene Josefa Bichlbauer in Bad Goisern ) is an Austrian high school teacher and politician ( ÖVP ). From 1979 to 1996 she was a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag . She is one of the most important women and social politicians in Upper Austria.

Life

Irene Dyk-Ploss attended elementary school in Traunkirchen , then secondary school in Gmunden . From 1966 she studied sociology at the University of Linz and graduated in 1974 with a doctorate. From 1970 Dyk-Ploss was an assistant at the Austrian Institute for Labor Market Policy, to which she belonged until 1992; since 1978 she was a lecturer. In 1981 she qualified as a professor for social politics. From 1992 to 1997 Dyk-Ploss worked at the Center for Distance Learning, from 1995 as a professor for social policy and distance learning development. From 1997 she was a professor at the Institute for Society and Social Policy, where she led courses for health professions. Between 2001 and 2003, Dyk-Ploss and Brigitte Kepplinger developed a seminar on the subject of “History and Democracy”, which was offered as a diversification project for right-wing extremist youth. In 2009 she retired .

In addition, Dyk-Ploss was active in adult education, political education and the training of social workers, worked part-time as a columnist and founded or managed various social institutions such as the “Alone with the child” campaign and the “Kinderschutzzentrum Linz” association, the first Child protection center in Austria. She was also a member of the Presidium of the Scouts Upper Austria. Since 2003 Dyk-Ploss has been chairman of the violence prevention committee in the Ministry of the Interior.

Dyk-Ploss married the Linz civil servant and politician Reinhard Dyk in 1970 ; she has a daughter with him. After their divorce, she married a second time.

politics

Dyk-Ploss was a member of the city party executive committee of the ÖVP Linz, the ÖVP state leadership and the federal party leadership. She was the deputy chairwoman of the ÖVP's socio-political forum and deputy chairwoman of the Academic Association of Upper Austria, also a member of the district management of the ÖAAB Linz, deputy chairwoman of the ÖAAB Upper Austria and a member of the federal government.

From 1979 to 1996 Dyk-Ploss was a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament, most recently as chairman of the legal adjustment committee.

Within the ÖVP, Dyk-Ploss was considered progressive; she describes herself as “left emancipation”. She regards gender equitable language as “nonsense” that is “less than a symbol”.
