Live and act

Irene E. Beckmann was born on September 3, 1942 in Graz. She grew up mainly in Vienna , where she attended, among other things, the humanistic grammar school in Vienna Amerling (today: Bundesgymnasium and Wirtschaftsundliches Realgymnasium Vienna 6 ). Already during her high school she attended special courses for drawing and painting. In 1961 she moved to St. Pölten , where she has lived since then. From 1965 onwards she was engaged in restoration work (mainly) of old country furniture , as well as painting behind glass and painting watercolors . In 1968 she began intensively with terracotta - sculptures to occupy and created henceforth mainly sculptures of horses. In addition to countless small sculptures, she also created numerous large sculptures, some of which were exhibited in public spaces. In the years 1972 to 1975 she made her diploma for the medical-technical specialist service , which she graduated with distinction. In 1980 she was accepted into the professional association of visual artists in Austria .

In 1984 the married Beckmann, mother of four children, began studying art history and philosophy at the University of Vienna . In 1987 she started with bronze work and an athlete series, and in 1988 with enamel work . Beckmann was sometimes supported by the Secession members Franz Fischer and Oskar Bottoli . Beckmann has had her workshop in the listed tower at Prinzlgasse 3 in Melk for a number of years or decades . The tower, which is part of the city fortifications with its city wall and is also known as the Roman tower or brewery tower , serves, in addition to various other rooms such as the workshop & gallery "Marein" in Kranach 43 in Eichberg-Trautenburg (since 2015 Leutschach an der Weinstrasse ) in Styria , also as a room for training courses and courses held by Beckmann.

In St. Pölten, a life-size horse sculpture created in 2008 is now on display at the corner of Heßstraße and Rossmarkt. During construction work in 2017/20, the sculpture was relocated for a short time, only to be placed back in its original place afterwards. On October 3, 2018, a bust of Rudolf Leiner designed by Irene Beckmann was unveiled at Rudolf Leiner-Platz in St. Pölten on the initiative of the Central Works Council in Lein .
