Life

Lebedeva studied at the Faculty of History of Leningrad University , graduating in 1980 from the Chair of Art History . During her studies, she started working in the Russian Museum .

In 1985 Lebedeva became a research assistant at the Moscow State Tretyakov Gallery (GTG). She took part in the relocation of the Soviet art collection from the main building on Lavrushinsky Alley to the museum complex on "Crimean Wall Street" (uliza Krymski Wal) leading to the Crimean Bridge and in the redesign of the display of the art of the 20th century. In 1987 she became a senior researcher and in 1998 she became vice-head of the Department for Painting of the First Half of the 20th Century. In 2001 she became the head of this department, and in 2005 the General Director of GTG Valentin Alexejewitsch Rodionov appointed her as his deputy and director for scientific work.

Lebedeva had become one of the leading experts in the Russian avant-garde . She participated in the organization of exhibitions of 20th century art at home and abroad. She organized the Andy Warhol exhibition in the GTG. In 2007 she became a member of the organizing committee of the annual All-Russian competition Innovatsija in the field of modern visual art .

In 2007, the Russian Minister of Culture, Alexander Sergejewitsch Sokolow, designated some exhibits at the Soz-Art exhibition in Paris as pornography , whereupon the GTG management withdrew 17 exhibits. Lebedeva welcomed the subsequent dismissal of the exhibition curator and head of the department for the latest trends Andrei Vladimirovich Erofejew , although, according to press reports, she had co-signed the exhibition list.

In April 2008 Lebedeva and others wrote a collective letter to President Dmitri Anatoljewitsch Medvedev with the request that the construction of the multifunctional complex Apelsin planned by Jelena Nikolajewna Baturina's company Inteco on the GTG site on the Crimean Wall according to a project by Norman Foster be prohibited.

In 2009, GTG General Director Rodionov was retired, and Lebedeva became the first woman to become the new General Director of GTG by ordinance of the Minister of Culture Alexander Alexejewitsch Avdejew . She developed new forms of exhibition in order to increase public interest. In an anonymous letter to Culture Minister Avdejew in March 2011, Lebedeva and TGT employees were accused of corruption , which Avdejew then rejected.

In February 2012 Lebedeva was added to the list of active supporters of the candidate Vladimir Putin for the presidential election.

In 2013 Lebedeva was elected a full member of the Russian Art Academy after she was elected a Corresponding Member in 2008.

During the Crimean crisis , Lebedeva signed a call for support from cultural workers, inspired by the Minister of Culture Vladimir Rostislawowitsch Medinsky . In 2015, GTG General Director Lebedeva was dismissed without giving any reason. Her successor was Selfira Tregulowa .
