Iris Wagner (artist)

Iris Wagner (born June 12, 1942 in Bayreuth ; † January 9, 2014 in Berlin ) was a German artist and translator who came from the Wagner family .

Life

Iris Wagner was the oldest child of Wieland Wagner and thus a great-granddaughter of Richard Wagner . She grew up in the Wahnfried house with her younger siblings Wolf Siegfried , Nike and Daphne .

Iris Wagner studied German in Tübingen and worked as a painter, photographer and filmmaker. She later translated literature from English, including works by Doris Lessing . Although she was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Richard Wagner Foundation for many years , she was more cautious about the public compared to her siblings and cousins.

Iris Wagner died after a long illness at the age of 71 in Berlin and was buried in the Bayreuth city cemetery.
