The publisher Nicolai Publishing & Intelligence in the legal form of a GmbH emerged in 2017 from the traditional Berlin-based Nicolai Verlag , which is one of the oldest book publishers in Germany. Over time, authors from all over the world have published in this publisher.

From the beginning of the 18th to the end of the 19th century

The Nicolaische Verlagsbuchhandlung was founded by Christoph Gottlieb Nicolai († 1752) in Berlin in 1713, and his business address was the Nicolaihaus at Brüderstraße 13 until the end of the 19th century . Originally, theological, medical and legal texts, but also school books, were published. The successor and son of the company founder, Friedrich Nicolai , an important representative of the German Enlightenment , made the publishing house known beyond Berlin and the Electorate of Brandenburg .

From the 20th century

In the past few years and centuries the publishing house has always kept its headquarters in Berlin . In the 2010s it is located in Berlin-Mitte , Oranienburger Strasse 22.

From 1965 to 1995 the publisher Dieter Beuermann owned the publishing house. In 1995 Nicolai Verlag was sold to the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group , at times it was a subsidiary of S. Fischer Verlag . In 2004 it was taken over by the publisher Andreas von Stedman. In February 2016 it became known that Christiane zu Salm had bought the publisher.
