Irmtraud Fischer

Irmtraud Fischer (born June 14, 1957 in Bad Aussee , Austria ) is an Austrian theologian and professor at the Institute for Old Testament Biblical Studies at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Karl-Franzens University in Graz . From October 2007 to 2011 she was Vice Rector with responsibility for research.

Life

Irmtraud Fischer completed a pedagogical degree from 1975 to 1977 , which she completed in 1977 with the teaching examination for elementary schools . From 1977 to 1982 she studied Catholic theology in Graz . From 1983 to 1994 she worked as a university assistant at the Institute for Old Testament Biblical Studies at the University of Graz under Professor Johannes Marböck. 1988 doctorate it to the doctor of theology In 1993 - on a proposal by Erich Zenger out - its Habilitation at the University of Graz. It was the first Catholic theological women's habilitation in Austria.

From 1994 to 1997 she was first assistant professor and later associate professor at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz. From 1997 to 2004 Irmtraud Fischer was full professor for "Old Testament and Theological Women's Studies" at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , since 2004 she has been professor for Old Testament biblical studies at the University of Graz.

Irmtraud Fischer was a member of the editorial team of the international journal Concilium in the feminist theology section for several years, was a member of the Zurich Bible translation group , was president of the European Society for Theological Research of Women and a member of the advisory board for the translation project Bible in Just Language . Guest professorships have taken her to Marburg , Vienna , Bamberg and Jerusalem . She has been co-editor of the Exegese in our time series since 1997 , and has been chairwoman of the Working Group of German-speaking Catholic Old Testament Scholars (AGAT) since 2005. In addition, she is chair of the curriculum committee for the inter-faculty course Jewish Studies at the Center for Jewish Studies in Graz.

In 2017, Fischer was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Justus Liebig University in Giessen .
