Melicope obovata (English name: Obovate Melicope ) is an extinct Hawaiian plant fromthe diamond family (Rutaceae). It is only known from the type specimen that wascollectedeither on Maui or Lānaʻi at the end of the 19th century. It wasdescribedas Pelea obovata by Harold St. John in 1944and placedin the genus Melicope in1989 by Thomas Gordon Hartley and Benjamin Clemens Stone .

The exact height of the deciduous tree Melicope obovata is not known. The opposite, narrow obverse-shaped leaves were a maximum of 9.5 to 10 inches long and 4.8 to 5.4 inches wide. The light, cork-like, smooth leaf stalks (petioles) were 10 to 13 millimeters long.

The zymous inflorescence consisted of up to 25 individual flowers . The flower stalks (pedicles) were three to seven millimeters long. The prophylls were ovate. The sepals were about 1.5 millimeters long.

The fruits had a diameter of 20 to 26 millimeters. The outer layer ( exocarp ) of the fruits was greenish or brownish in color. The inner layer ( endocarp ) was thin, cartilaginous and smooth. The seeds were about six millimeters long.
