The Irrenberg is 924.9 m above sea level. NHN high mountain on the southwestern Swabian Alb near the Albstadt district of Pfeffingen in the Zollernalb district .
On August 26, 1972, a spectacular landslide occurred as a result of heavy rainfall , in which the saddle between Hundsücken and Irrenberg slid over a length of 700 meters on the north side. Due to repeated reactivations, the area of the landslide has expanded from originally around 20 hectares to now over 36 hectares. The largest nature reserve in the Zollernalb district is located at this point and to a large extent south of the saddle. The 128 hectare site Irrenberg-Hundsücken is characterized by an extraordinary variety of biotope types. For example, so-called limestone grasslands have developed on the barren soils of the wooden meadows on the Irrenberg, with a rare flora and fauna.
The Irrenberg can be reached via Pfeffingen. To the north of Pfeffingen at the level of the Zitterhof there is a parking lot, from which you can easily reach the Irrenberg. Its areas, maintained by numerous nature conservation associations, make the Irrenberg plateau so unique with its flora and fauna. From the Irrenberg you have a beautiful view of Streichen and the Hundsrücke .
