Irwin Collier

Irwin L. Collier, Jr. (born August 14, 1951 in Flint , Michigan ) is an American economist and professor at the Free University of Berlin .

Life

Collier graduated from Yale University , where he received his BA in Economics in 1974. In 1984 he obtained the Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology . From 1981 he was Assistant Professor and from 1989 Associate Professor at the University of Houston . Collier has been Professor at the Free University of Berlin at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies in the Economics Department since 1994 . His research project on The Origin of the Graduate Canon in the United States is funded by the Institute for New Economic Thinking .

From 1981 to 1988, Collier was a Volkswagen International Fellow at the Federal Institute for Eastern and International Studies . From 1982 to 1983 he was also a consultant at the World Bank .

Teaching and research stays took him to the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and the Seoul National University in South Korea .

Memberships

Collier is a member of the Verein für Socialpolitik , the International Association for Research in Income and Wealth and the American Economic Association .
