Isaac Smith (politician, 1761)

Isaac Smith (born January 4, 1761 in Chester County , Province of Pennsylvania , †  April 4, 1834 in Jersey Shore , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1813 and 1815 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Isaac Smith attended public schools in his home country and then worked in agriculture in Lycoming County . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson in the late 1790s . Between 1806 and 1808 he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives .

In the congressional elections of 1812 Smith was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the tenth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Aaron Lyle on March 4, 1813 . Until March 3, 1815, he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . This was largely shaped by the events of the British-American War .

After serving in the US House of Representatives, Smith returned to farming. He also got into the milling business. He died on April 4, 1834 on his farm near Jersey Shore.
