Ammonium hexafluorophosphate is a chemical compound from the group of hexafluorophosphates .

Extraction and presentation

Ammonium hexafluorophosphate can be obtained by reacting phosphorus pentachloride with ammonium fluoride .

It is also possible to display it by reacting phosphonitrile chloride with hydrofluoric acid .

properties

Ammonium hexafluorophosphate is a colorless salt that is usually in the form of square, rarely rectangular leaves or thick sheets. It is very easily soluble in water and also soluble in acetone , methanol and ethanol . It decomposes when heated up without melting first and is slowly hydrolyzed by strong acids when boiled.

use

Ammonium hexafluorophosphate can be used to produce many salts of hexafluorophosphoric acid , for example sodium hexafluorophosphate monohydrate NaPF 6 · H 2 O or potassium hexafluorophosphate KPF 6 and with RbCl or CsCl rubidium hexafluorophosphate or cesium hexafluorophosphate or cesium hexafluorophosphate are obtained with the appropriate alkali solutions .
