Isaac Christian Kraft

Isaak Christian Kraft (born February 5, 1727 in Büdingen ; † during or after 1791 in Goch ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

Isaak Christian Kraft was born as the son of the vice-principal Johann Henrich Kraft and the daughter of Johann Daniel Appel . After his father died, Isaac Kraft was raised by his mother. He could not go to a university because of money problems, so he worked as a teacher in Krefeld from 1747 . Kraft's wife apparently died early, and only one of his children, Friedrich Kraft , survived. With this he studied from 1760 at the University of Duisburg to study theology. From 1761 Isaac Kraft taught at a school in Orsoy ; on May 4, 1762 he became rector there. Then, in 1763, he was elected rector of a school in Goch and was also active as a preacher . During 1764, Kraft married a second time. The children of this marriage also died, only the son from the first marriage survived. Throughout his life he suffered from poverty, especially food problems. He died as rector in Goch during or after 1791. Kraft also composed hymns, which were not included in known hymn books.
