The Isch is a 27-kilometer-long right tributary of the Saar , which flows mainly in the landscape of the Crooked Alsace and for two kilometers in Lorraine .

geography

course

The Isch rises near Lohr and flows in an east-west direction via Ottwiller to Drulingen . From there, an old railway line follows its valley to Weyer . After crossing under the A4 autoroute , it changes in a north-south direction, passes Hirschland and changes again in an east-west direction. It flows around Baerendorf in a meander , takes on the Brueschbach on the left and passes the Alsace-Lorraine border twice before and after Postroff . At Wolfskirchen it is crossed by the disused Berthelming - Sarre-Union railway line and flows into the Saar immediately opposite Diedendorf .

Hydrology

At the confluence with the Saar, the mean flow rate (MQ) is 1.8 m³ / s; the catchment area here covers 153.9 km².

In Postroff, the average annual discharge of the Isch was calculated over a period of 41 years (1969–2009) . The catchment area at this point corresponds to about 145 km², thus about 94.2% of the complete catchment area of the river.

The flow rate of the Isch, with an annual average of 1.69 m³ / s, fluctuates quite strongly over the course of the year. The highest water levels are measured in the winter months from December to March. The flow rate reached its peak in February at 3.37 m³ / s. In April the discharge falls sharply, then decreases month by month and reaches its lowest level in September with 0.55 m³ / s, after which it increases again from month to month to its second highest in December with 3.03 m³ / s Stand to achieve.

The monthly mean discharge (MQ) of the Isch in m³ / s, measured at the Postroff hydrological station.
Data calculated from the values for the years 1969 - 2009
