history

Ishtar Airlines was founded in March 2005 by Iraqi businessman Safa Al-Jusani together with former Iraqi Airways pilots to offer scheduled flight connections between Dubai and Baghdad . Operations began in the same month with a leased Boeing 737-200 , which was used on two fixed weekly charter flights from the Iraqi capital to Dubai. The flights were marketed through the Iraqi travel company Atlas Travel and Tourism . Further connections from Basra and Erbil to Dubai were planned. In the summer of 2005, a Boeing 727-200 leased from African Express Airways added to the fleet. The Greek company GainJet Aviation acquired a stake in the company in 2006. Flight operations were discontinued in 2008.
