Christoforos Stefanidis ( Greek Χριστόφορος Στεφανίδης , born July 28, 1980 in Athens ) is a Greek basketball player who is 1.87 m tall and can be used in the positions of point guard or shooting guard .

Career

Stefanidis went through some youth departments of the AO Paleo Faliro before he was appointed to the men's team for the 1999/2000 season. The local team from Paleo Faliro played in the A2 Ethniki , the second division in the Greek basketball competition for club teams. In his first season Stefanidis was used in 25 out of 26 possible games. Was part of the fixed rotation of the squad and thanks to his consistently good performance, he always got time on the floor. The playmaker had his best season for Paleo Faliro in the 2002/03 season. In 26 games he came to 280 points and put on 76 Asistts. In that season, behind Apollon Patras , AO Paleo Faliro took second place in the second division with 18 wins from 26 games, which entitles them to promotion to what was then A1 Ethniki . However, for financial reasons, the club management did not apply for a license for the first-class league and remained in the A2. The promotion place was thus transferred to third-placed Ilisiakos Athens , who moved up the employee of Paleo Faliro to the House of Lords. After a few players left, the team slipped to ninth place for the following season. Stefanidi's performance with 273 points in 26 games was still at a consistently high level. With his subsequent move to Marousi Honda , who played in the first division, the point guard managed to make it to the upper house and played for that team on international soil by participating in the ULEB Cup . Stefanidis made his debut in European competition at the side of Vasilis Spanoulis and Kostas Kaimakoglou on November 9, 2004, in the game against the MPC Capitals from Groningen which Marousi had won with 85:51 points. After surviving the group stage, which Marousi finished in first place, and the knockout round victory against the Polish representative Deichmann Śląsk Wrocław , they met in early March 2005 in the quarter-finals of the competition on the basketball club Makedonikos . In their own stadium, Marousi lost the first leg with 89:92 points. In the second leg, the club recorded a win against Makedonikos, who came from their own league, but this was not enough to guarantee progress. With the 76:75 points victory, they were two points behind in the overall result.

In the domestic league, Marousi finished the main round behind Panathinaikos in second place. Stefanidis had by no means played the dominant role he still played as the playmaker of the Paleo Faliro. Coach Panagiotis Giannakis had brought Stefanidis into the team as a backup for playmaker Roderick Blakney . In 26 games of the main round, Stefanidis was used in 18 games. With an average playing time of 8:33 minutes, he got 2.33 points per game. In the first round of the following playoffs, Marousi faced Makedonikos. The team that had been defeated in the quarter-finals of the ULEB Cup a few weeks earlier. So this time they lost the first game with 83:93 points. But prevailed successfully in the following two games. In the semifinals the AEK Athens ended any title ambitions of the Marousi and also in the small final, in the game for third place they could not prevail against Panionios . Stefanidis was used in seven games of the playoffs . At an average of 9:16 minutes, a total of 24 more hits were added. Over the entire season this means 25 appearances with a yield of 66 points. Blakney got 489 points in 33 games. The team's top scorer was Spanoulis with 558 points in 35 games. Spanoulis then switched to Panathinaikos and Marousi replaced this departure on the position of shooting guard with Alexis Kyritsis .

For the 2005/06 season, the second season for Stefanidis at Marousi, the team failed again in the semi-finals of the playoffs for the Greek championship. First Marousi met in the quarterfinals on PAOK Saloniki for their captain Kostas Vasileiadis , who could be defeated with 2-1 games. With 2: 3 games they were defeated in the semifinals to Olympiacos and in the small final they failed to Aris Saloniki . Once again Marousi finished fourth in the domestic championship. With 116 points in 26 games, with an average playing time of 15:15 minutes, Stefanidis also gained more importance for his team. Internationally, they made guest appearances in the EuroCup that season . After surviving the first group phase, which Marousi finished in first place, Stefanidis delivered his best game in the EuroCup in the game against MPC Capitals with 13 points, one met in the second group phase against the German representative RheinEnergie Cologne who was the group behind Marousi on the could finish second rank. In the quarter-finals, the Greek representative then faced last year's winner Dynamo St. Petersburg . The Russian team, which was trained by Fotis Katsikaris , clearly defeated Marousi in two games and thus prevented entry into the final Final Four tournament. At least in the domestic cup they reached the final of the competition, but had to admit defeat Panathinaikos with 57:68 points.

Stefanidis played another three seasons for Marousi and for the 2008/09 season the club also ended its season in third place, which at the time allowed them to participate in the Euroleague , the highest endowed European competition for club basketball. Stefanidis, however, switched to EK Kavalas because he had never really outgrown his reservist role at Marousi.
