Isidor Himmelbaur

Isidor Himmelbaur , also Himmelbauer (born February 6, 1858 in Tarvis , † April 16, 1919 in Vienna ) was an Austrian librarian and popular educator.

Life

Himmelbaur studied at the University of Graz, where he obtained his doctorate in 1881. In 1884 he came to the Vienna University Library as a volunteer . In 1885 he married Marietta Brunetti, who later founded the school . Their son Wolfgang was born in 1886 . Himmelbaur became scriptor at the university library in 1894, provisional curator in 1900 and permanent curator in 1902. In 1908 he became a councilor, in 1910 head of the library and in 1913 a councilor. 1914–1917 Himmelbaur was chairman of the Vienna People's Education Association .

In 1930, Himmelbaurgasse in Vienna- Hietzing was named after him.
