Ismo Leikola (born January 22, 1979 in Jyväskylä , Finland ) is a Finnish stand-up comedian.

Life

Ismo Leikola spent his school days at the Jyväskylän Normaalikoulu school. In Jyväskylä he studied physics as well as chemistry , astronomy , biology, mathematics and philosophy . During his studies he liked to give lectures, some of which were fun. As he himself reported, his teachers laughed a lot too. Not liking physics, he began considering a career as a stand-up comedian. Leikola is still strongly connected to his old hometown Jyväskylä , but now lives with his partner in Helsinki . His hobbies are music, singing and playing the guitar . Vocal interludes and guitar playing are also occasionally part of his shows. He is also interested in conspiracy theories and unusual phenomena.

Ismo Leikola's brother is the singer of the band Soulfallen .

Career

Leikola's first public appearance took place in Jyväskylä in 2002 in the Ilokivi restaurant. Its audience consisted of about 200 students. As he later said himself, it took a lot of courage to make this first appearance. The first gig was very successful, followed by shows in many stand-up clubs across Finland and elsewhere in Europe.

Leikola became famous in Finland when he appeared in 2003 on the Finnish talk show "Hyppönen-Enbuske Experience". He was voted stand-up newcomer of the year in 2003 and was the audience favorite in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010 at the largest stand-up festival in the Nordic countries (Tomaatteja! Tomaatteja!). In 2008 he published his first own film DVD with the title Hyvä keikka ja helvetisti extroja (“Good gig and a lot of extras”). In autumn 2009 Leikola had a big tour "Kadonneen naurun metsästys" (The hunt for lost laughter) all over Finland and in 2009-2010 he had his own stand-up show "Ei mainoksia" (No commercials) in the comedy theater from Tampere. From 2010 to 2011 Ismo Leikola performed his stand-up show “Ismo Leikola kasvaa erisenä” (Ismo Leikola grows into people) in various theaters. The theme of the show was the course of life.

From 2011 to 2012 his musical “Työttömän laulu” (The Song of the Unemployed), based on songs by the Finnish artist Jaakko Teppo, ran. It was performed at the Rio Theater in Oulu . In 2012 he is doing a 10-year anniversary tour 'Ismo Leikola kertoo enemmän kuin tuhat sanaa', (Ismo Leikola tells more than a thousand words), in which he talks about himself and his career.

TV appearances

  • 2003-2006 Leikola had a role in the TV show "Hyppönen Enbuske Experience", which was later named "Tuomas & Juuso Experience".
  • In 2004 Leikola wrote and performed sketches for the stand-up TV show "Act! One".
  • In 2006 Leikola appeared as a stand-up comedian on the TV show “Komiikkatehdas” (The Komikfabrik).
  • In 2009 he also wrote skits for the TV show "Suomi myytävänä" (Finland for sale), in which he also appeared.
  • In 2010 he wrote the script for the TV show “Savustuskoppi” (smokehouse)
  • 2010–2011 he hosted the TV show “Kansallisaarre” (National Treasure).

International

Leikola has been performing stand-up comedy in English since 2005 . He played in stand-up clubs e.g. B. in London and Dublin and had many guest appearances z. B. 2008 at the Galway Comedy Festival (IRL), 2009 at the Oslo Stand up Festival (NOR) and 2010 at the Stockholm Comedy Festival (SWE). In 2007 and 2008 he had his own show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe , the largest stand-up festival in the world. Leikola has also performed at the International Cologne Comedy Festival in 2011.
