Samsunport , named after the city of Samsun , is the largest seaport of Turkey on the Black Sea .
geography
Samsunport is located in a bay and is protected to the north by a 1,580 m long breakwater and to the east by a 3,132 m long breakwater . It is the largest port on the Turkish Black Sea coast and, due to the favorable rail and road connections to the hinterland, the most important transshipment point for goods traffic to and from Anatolia . Waiting ships will find a good anchorage outside the port .
history
The bay has been used as a natural harbor since the city was founded . Preparations for commercial use began in 1910, but they were interrupted by the First World War. Between 1926 and 1944 the pier facilities were operated by local companies and after that the port was under state administration. On 16 May 2008, the Cey Group acquired for 125 million dollars to operate the port for 36 years the right. For this purpose, the Samsunport-Samsun International Port Management was founded, which took over the operation of the port in April 2010.
Goods and transport
At Samsunport mainly goods from the Black Sea economic cooperation and transit traffic to Iran and other countries in the Middle East are handled.
There are regular sea connections to the most important Black Sea ports in Bulgaria , Georgia , Romania , Russia and the Ukraine . All seaports in the world can be reached via the Turkish straits of the Bosporus and Dardanelles , and ports in Central Europe can be reached via the Danube and the Main-Danube Canal . The ferry connection to Varna is part of the European route 70 .
Samsunport is divided into the main port ( Ana Liman in Turkish ) and the industrial port ( Sanayi Rıhtımı ). In the main port, ships with a draft of up to 10 m can be handled at six berths with a quay length of 1,176 m. The three berths in the industrial port have a water depth of 11 m and at berth no. 8, railway ferries can be handled. The port facilities cover a total area of 445,000 m² .
In the coming years, 32 million US dollars are to be invested in the port expansion.
