Isola di San Paolo is a small island in Lake Iseo in the Italian region of Lombardy .

geography

The Isola di San Paolo is a good 500 meters south of the larger island of Monte Isola . It is around 120 meters long and up to 60 meters wide from east to west, the area is about 0.56 hectares (5600 square meters ).

history

The island is privately owned by the Beretta family, who own one of the largest armories in Italy, the Fabbrica d'Armi Pietro Beretta . The villa on the island was rebuilt by the Italian architect Egidio Dabbeni (1873–1964), who also realized the Villa Beretta in the nearby town of Gardone Val Trompia , the seat of the family.

In the 11th century, the island belonged to the Mozzi family, who donated it to the Benedictine Order of Cluny Abbey in 1091 ; after the island passed to the Fenaroli family from nearby Pilzone , who later sold it to the Order of the Friars Minor , the island was finally sold in private ownership around 1783.

Christos artistic installation 2016

From June 18 to July 3, 2016, Isola di San Paolo was part of Christo's temporary work of art , the installation The Floating Piers , which crossed the small town of Sulzano on the mainland with Peschiera Maraglio on the island of Monte Isola via accessible, floating walkways and connected with Isola di San Paolo.
