Issel on the Moselle has been a district of Schweich in the Trier-Saarburg district in Rhineland-Palatinate since 1969 .
Issel is located at the northeastern exit of the Trier valley and has been documented in historical sources since the early Middle Ages . In a document dated August 20, 953 possession of the nunnery Horreum will Trier in Insula (Issel) of King Otto I confirmed. Also in a document dated August 22, 973, King Otto II confirmed the property of the Horreum nunnery in Trier in Insula (Issel).
The Merzbach flows through Issel .
On June 7, 1969, the previously independent community of Issel with 862 inhabitants at the time was incorporated into Schweich.
