Italian hip hop

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Italian hip hop started in the early 1990s. One of the first hip-hop groups to gain attention from the Italian mainstream was Milan's Articolo 31 , produced then and now by Franco Godi , who wrote the score for the animated television series about Signor Rossi in the 1970s .

In the early 1980s, hip hop spread to Italy, side by side with Jamaican raggamuffin . The first star was Jovanotti , who used rap in the otherwise traditional Italian pop. Still, some of his songs were pure hip-hop, e. B. "Il Rap", which Public Enemys Chuck D sampled.

Articolo 31 started out as a hip-hop duo mainly influenced by East Coast hip-hop , but switched to a more profitable style during their career and eventually evolved into a punk / pop / crossover group. Other important groups and rappers are Bologna's Camelz in Effect with their early hit "Slega la Lega", Sangue Misto with their 1994 album "SMX", the political group 99 Posse , whose music has influences from world music to trip-hop. Gangsta rap groups are Sa Razza and La Fossa from Sardinia , Colle der Fomento and Flaminio Maphia from Rome and Kaos One from Milan. Probably the best-known Italian rappers besides Articolo 31 are Sottotono from Varese, Neffa from Bologna and Piotta , who represents Rome and became famous through an ironic interpretation of Coatto (the stereotypical Italian boy). Caparezza is another well-known rapper.

There are also some groups that rap in local dialects or languages, such as: B. La Famiglia and Almamegretta in Neapolitan, whereby in this band the transitions into reggae and other styles are fluid; Sa Razza (partly) in Sardinian and the DLH Posse , which raps in both Friulian and Italian. 99 Posse uses both Italian and Neapolitan, while La Pooglia Tribe and Sud Sound System both rap in Italian and dialects from the Apulian region.

In recent years, new groups such as Cor Veleno, Brusco, Gli Inquilini and La Squadra from Rome, Club Dogo , JTAG, Emis Killa and Vacca from Milan, Salmo from Sardinia, Co'Sang from Naples or Stokka & Madbuddy from Palermo have appeared in the Italian hip-hop scene.
