Ivan Hribar (born September 19, 1851 in Trzin , † April 18, 1941 in Ljubljana (Laibach)) was a Slovenian and Yugoslavian banker, politician, diplomat and publicist . At the turn of the 20th century he was one of the leaders of the National Progressive Party and one of the most important figures of Slovenian liberal nationalism. Between 1896 and 1910 he was mayor of Ljubljana (the capital of Slovenia since 1991) and made a significant contribution to the reconstruction and modernization of the city after the earthquake of 1895 .

Due to his patriotic sentiments, he could not endure the Italian occupation of Ljubljana during World War II in the spring of 1941 and demonstratively committed suicide: he jumped into the river and died in it.

The city administration had a memorial erected at the corresponding point on the bank.
