Ivan Rebernik (born October 7, 1939 in Maribor ) is a librarian and Slovenian diplomat in Italy .

Life

After graduating from high school, Ivan Rebernik lived in Prevalje in Slovenia and Đakovo . From 1960 he lived in Rome and from 1963 studied Catholic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University and received his doctorate in philosophy there in 1980 . In 1967 he worked at the Gregorian University Library. He studied library sciences at the Smithsonian Institution Libraries and the Catholic University of America . From 1980 to 2004 he was the librarian of the Vatican Apostolic Library and director of the Department of Categorization and Catalog of Prints. Attached to the library is the Vatican School of Paleography, Diplomatics and Archival Studies and the Vatican School of Library Science, where the Professor of Library Science was.

From 1994 he worked as a consultant at the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia to the Holy See. From 2006 to 2010 he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Slovenia to the Holy See by Janez Drnovšek .

He is a board member of the Arch Brotherhood of Campo Santo Teutonico , the oldest German national foundation in Rome, and was head of the library of the Roman Institute of the Goerres Society (RIGG) . Rebernik is a member of the Kolping Family Kamnica, which with its members is the largest Kolping Family in Slovenia.

In 2000 he was invested in the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem . On March 27, 2012 he was appointed Chancellor of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem by Cardinal Grand Master Edwin Frederick O'Brien ; on April 12, 2016, Flavio Rondinini succeeded him. On December 12, 2016 he was appointed Honorary Chancellor.
