Ivor D. Fenton

Ivor David Fenton (born August 3, 1889 in Mahanoy City , Pennsylvania , †  October 23, 1986 in Sunbury , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1939 and 1963 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ivor Fenton attended his homeland public schools and Bucknell University in Lewisburg . He then studied medicine at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia until 1912 . In 1912 and 1913 he did an internship at Ashland State Hospital . After his license as a doctor in 1914, he began to work in Mahanoy City in this profession. In 1917 and 1918 he served as a lieutenant and later as captain during the First World War in the medical service of the US Army . He was also used on the European theater of war. After the war he practiced as a doctor again in Mahanoy City. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

In the 1938 congressional election , Fenton was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 13th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Democrat James H. Gildea on January 3, 1939 . After eleven re-elections, he was able to complete twelve legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1963 . Since 1945 he represented the twelfth district of his state there. The Roosevelt government's last New Deal laws were passed there by 1941 . Since 1941, the work of the Congress was also shaped by the events of World War II . In the years that followed, Fenton saw the onset of the Cold War , the Korean War and domestically the civil rights movement as a congressman . In 1962 he was not re-elected.

After serving in the US House of Representatives, Ivor Fenton served as a medical advisor to the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare and the State General Hospital . He died on October 23, 1986 in Sunbury at the age of 97.
