Ivan Vasilyevich Ostoslawski

Ivan Vasilyevich Ostoslawski ( Russian Иван Васильевич Остославский * July 14 jul. / 27. July  1904 greg. In Mariupol , † 3. January 1972 in Moscow ) was a Russian aerodynamics and university teachers .

Life

Ostoslawski was the son of the noble mathematics high school professor Vasily Iwanowitsch Ostoslawski and his wife Valentina Jepifanowna, née. Ivashchenko, teacher of Russian literature.

Ostoslawski studied at the Physico - Mathematical Faculty of Moscow University with a degree in 1929. From 1928 he worked in the aviation industry . In 1932 he joined the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (ZAGI) . During the German-Soviet War , investigations to increase the speed of military aircraft were carried out under his leadership in the wind tunnels of the ZAGI . In 1942 he became deputy director of the ZAGI. In 1945 he became Deputy Director of the Aviation Research Institute (LII) and remained so until 1956.

Since 1944 Ostoslawski taught at the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) and headed the chair for aerodynamics with appointment as professor in 1949. In 1958 this chair was dissolved and he took over the leadership of the chair for flight dynamics and control , which he held until his death. He was the father of 25 candidates and 7 doctors of science.

Ostoslawski was buried in Moscow's Golovinsky Cemetery.
