Ján Sinapius-Horčička

Ján Sinapius-Horčička (* 1625 in Oravský Podzámok , then Kingdom of Hungary ; † August 6, 1682 in Halle (Saale) ; also called Johann Sinapius the Elder ) was a Slovak humanist and theologian . He was the brother of the theologian and poet Daniel Sinapius-Horčička and the uncle of the historian Johann Sinapius .

Life

After studying in Königsberg , among other places , he was first as vice-rector and later rector in Bánovce nad Bebravou (Banowitz) and Hlohovec (Freistadtl). From 1652 Sinapius was a pastor in Skalica (Skalitz), Veličná , Brezno and finally in Trenčín (Trenčín) in the Waag Valley . Because of counter-reformation measures in Royal Hungary, he was forced to emigrate. He went into exile, first in Görlitz , and from around 1677 in Halle an der Saale , where he died.
