Hunter's Cross

The Jägerskreuz in Bad Orb , a spa town in the Main-Kinzig district in Hesse , was built in 1727. The crucifix south of the parish dome is a protected cultural monument .

The Latin cross made of sandstone on a rectangular base plate with rounded shoulders commemorates the death of the hunter Heinrich Stock from Villbach , who was shot here on August 2nd, 1727 by a poacher . The cross with an inscription on the base was donated by the parents of the victim.

The inscription reads:

 Anno 1727 on
 August […] Henrich Stock
Jäger von Vielbach was shot here
 by a wiltschützen
 Dott
 because his parents had Diß
creitz set up to honor Jesus
 and to comfort his poor
 soul.
