Jozef Abelewicz

Józef Abelewicz (born March 17, 1821 in Anykščiai , † July 3, 1882 ) was a Polish Roman Catholic clergyman and teacher .

Life

Józef Abelewicz was born on March 17, 1821 to Wincenty and Anna in Anykščiai. He completed his schooling from 1833 to 1838 in Troškūnai and attended the diocesan seminary in Vilnius from 1840 to 1842 . From 1842 to 1846 he attended the Roman Catholic Spiritual Academy in Saint Petersburg , from which he graduated with the degree of Magister Theologiae . He was ordained a priest on June 6, 1846 in Saint Petersburg. He then worked as a chaplain of the grammar school in Świsłocz , and in the same year was appointed to the Spiritual Seminary in Vilnius, where he did dogmatics until 1853taught. In that year he was church administrator of the parish in Waukawysk and dean there . In 1856 he finally became a pastor in Waukawysk.

In 1870 he was appointed inspector of the Spiritual Seminary in Vilnius, where he lectured in homiletics until 1872 and in Scripture until 1878 . On July 30, 1878 he became rector of the seminary and thus successor to Maciej Harasimowicz , who was deposed by the government . He also held lectures on canon law in this role .

On July 3, 1882, he died of a stroke .
