Josef Hudec (also Józef Antoni Hudec , born January 20, 1863 in Cracow , † January 28, 1915 in Karwin ) was an Austro-Polish politician

Life

Josef Hudec's father was a carpenter in the railway workshop of the Carl Ludwig-Bahn . He attended the lower grammar school in Lemberg and then began an apprenticeship as a typesetter . In doing so, he approached socialism and acquired relevant knowledge in self-study. Hudec became a co-founder of the Polish Social Democratic Party .

Hudec was active in the Ognisko printing association , was elected chairman in 1901 and was temporarily responsible editor of the magazine of the same name. He was also the editor of several party newspapers.

From 1897 he was director of the municipal health insurance company in Lemberg. From 1903 to 1908 he was a councilor in the city.

In 1907 Hudec was elected to the House of Representatives of the Austrian Imperial Council in Vienna for the electoral district of Galicia 7 . His focus was on social policy and social legislation. In Vienna he learned the German language to the point where he could give speeches and take part in debates in the Social Insurance Committee. In the Imperial Council election in 1911 he was re-elected.

Josef Hudec died after a short illness at the age of 53. He was married and had eight children.
