József Balogh (* 1956 in Pécs ) is a Hungarian - German clarinetist .

Life

He completed music and clarinet studies with Béla Kovács at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest , from which he graduated in 1979 with a master’s degree. In 1988 she won first prize twice in important music competitions in Budapest and Graz. In 1989 he complemented his studies with a course with Larry Combs in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Georg Solti .

From 1976 to 1985 József Balogh was a member of the orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera and then until 1996 first clarinetist of the Budapest Symphony Orchestra on the Hungarian radio . This was followed by an international concert activity as a soloist a. a. with the Budapest Police Orchestra, the Budapest Symphonic Band, the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra of the Zemplén Art Festival , the State Orchestra of Târgu Mureș , the Bad Wörishofen Spa Orchestra and many chamber music ensembles. Balogh was artistic director of the clarinet ensemble " ClarSix " and the wind quintet " Ozon ".

Since 1985 József Balogh has also worked as a lecturer in the field of clarinet, first at the Bela Bartok Conservatory in Budapest and since 1988 at the Franz Liszt Music Academy there. As a guest lecturer, he has also given and still gives numerous master classes, for example in 1997 at the University of North Texas , 1997–2007 at the University of Oklahoma , in 1998 at the Israel Clarinet Festival Tel Aviv , the University of Kansas and Utah State University , and in 2000 at the Royal College of Music in London and at the Nuremberg University of Music , since 2001 at the Europe Music School Budapest and 2004 at the NERV Conventie Utrecht .

József Balogh has participated in numerous recordings for the music publishers Naxos , Fontrade , Spring Hill Music Group , Capriccio and Farao Classics .
