Jörg Maria Ortwein

Jörg Maria Ortwein (* 1961 in Kempten (Allgäu) ) is a German saxophonist , music educator , educational scientist and university director.

Live and act

Ortwein studied saxophone at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich and also had lessons from Iwan Roth , Claude Delangle and Daniel Deffayet and Jean-Marie Londeix . Music studies were followed by social sciences studies at the Distance University in Hagen with the core areas of educational science , media didactics and media communication, professional and economic education, sociology, social and developmental psychology and empirical educational research. In 2018 Ortwein received his doctorate with his dissertation on university didactics at music universities at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg .

From 1987 to 2003 Ortwein taught saxophone at the singing and music school of the city of Kempten (Allgäu) . From 1989 to 2007 he taught as a professor for saxophone and chamber music at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory . Since 2006 he has been director of the Vorarlberg State Conservatory.

From 1990 to 2005 Ortwein worked as a freelance orchestral musician in various orchestras such as the Bamberg Symphony , the Stuttgart Philharmonic , the Hessischer Rundfunk orchestra and many more. As a freelance musician, he is particularly active in the fields of classical and improvised music. Artistic and music-pedagogical work is documented in several CD and radio recordings as well as in television reports from Bayerischer Rundfunk , Südwestrundfunk and 3sat . In 1994 he founded the Orfeo Saxophone Quartet .

Ortwein is also active as an editor and author.
