Jörg Michaelis

Jörg Michaelis (born December 7, 1940 in Essen ) is a German epidemiologist , computer scientist and university professor. From 2001 to 2007 he was President of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz .

Life

Jörg Michaelis studied medicine at the Universities of Freiburg im Breisgau , Innsbruck and Vienna from 1960 to 1965 . In 1972 he completed his habilitation in medical statistics , documentation and data processing . Between 1973 and 1976 he was head of the human medicine department at the Institute for Medical and Pharmaceutical Examination Questions . In 1977 he became a full professor at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, where he taught medical statistics and documentation and became director of the IMBEI Institute at the University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . Michaelis retired in 2009.

He was a member of the Bioethics Commission of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, Scientific Advisory Board of the German Medical Association (1986–2010) and Scientific Advisory Board of the EA European Academy of Technology and Innovation Assessment . Michaelis works in the "Commission for Medical Research" of the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz . He was heavily involved in the foundation system of the Mainz University of Applied Sciences. As a board member of the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation , Michaelis played a key role in setting up the Institute for Molecular Biology (IMB) .
