Jørgen Bitsch

Jørgen Bitsch (born June 30, 1922 in Bandholm in the municipality of Lolland ; † February 12, 2005 ) was a Danish author , film producer , adventurer and lecturer.

Life

From 1949 to 1950 he traveled with a Nimbus - motorcycle along with the mechanic Jørgen tungsten from Copenhagen to Cape Town in South Africa , which he in his book Eventyrlige the afrikafærd (The adventurous Africa trip) reported. The following year the book Fra Kilimanjaro til pygmæerne (From Kilimanjaro to the pygmies ) was published. From 1956 to 1957 he traveled to Brazil , Bolivia and Peru , among others with Arne Falk-Rønne . He tells about it in the book Jivaro , which describes the Jivaro - Indians in the Amazon rainforest and u. a. very detailed the fight with an anaconda . In order to be able to film this fight, Bitsch had taught the Indians how to operate a film camera. Bitsch also reported on his participation in archaeological excavations in Peru and Bolivia, including Inca cultures. The book Tamapaya reports et al. a. from these excavations (the Tamapaya River is a river in Bolivia).

In 1959 he traveled to Borneo , where he lived among the natives and got to know their customs and traditions. This resulted in the book Ulu - Verdens ende (Ulu - At the end of the world). Due to his lecturing he wrote a. a. a contribution to the book Med Eventyrerne over alle grænser (With adventurers across all borders) and an article in National Geographic Magazine in November 1964.

Awards

  • In 1940 he won first prize for his youth novel Som kahytsdreng til Siam (The cabin boy to Siam ). He dedicated this award to his teacher.
