The Jewish elementary school was an elementary school of the Jewish community in Fellheim , a community in the Swabian district of Unterallgäu in Bavaria . While a school was mentioned as early as 1796, the building built in 1836 was initially used as a Jewish elementary school and from 1911 as a schoolhouse for all primary school students in the community. Today it is the town hall of Fellheim.

history

As early as 1796, there are reports of Jewish lessons in Fellheim. In the 1830s the Jewish settlement Fellheim was built and with it the school building, which was used from 1836. The first announcement of the teaching position at the Jewish Volks-Schule Fellheim on February 24, 1828, provided by the royal government with an annual "monetary salary of 300 florins", was published in the intelligence gazette of the Königlich-Bayerischen Oberdonaukreis . Another advertisement from January 14, 1874 appeared in the Allgemeine Zeitung des Judentums . The teaching position was now also associated with the choirmaster and slaughterer service, the teacher's salary including vacant apartment was 550 florins, and around 150 florins can be expected in additional income from slaughterhouse fees. After more and more Jews had emigrated from Fellheim to larger cities since the middle of the 19th century, the school had to close in 1910. The few remaining Jewish children were taught in the Christian elementary school. The religious instruction was given by a Jewish religious teacher from Memmingen .

The community school was housed in the building of the former Jewish elementary school between 1911 and 1983. Today it is used as the town hall of the Fellheim community.
