Jewish cemetery (Höchst im Odenwald)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jewish cemetery Höchst im Odenwald is a cemetery in the municipality of Höchst im Odenwald in the Odenwaldkreis in Hesse .

The Jewish cemetery is located southwest of Höchst on the edge of the forest between the L 3106 state road to the west and the B 45 to the east .

First of all, the dead of the Höchst Jewish community were buried in the Michelstadt cemetery. Since the middle of the 19th century, the Jewish community in Höchst tried to be allowed to set up its own cemetery, which was initially obviously not approved. The cemetery, which existed since 1898/99, was also occupied by the Jewish families in Neustadt , Mümling-Grumbach and Hetschbach . There is no information about the number of tombstones .

After the November pogrom in 1938, the cemetery was desecrated : numerous stones were overturned and grave areas were devastated.

In the summer of 2008, a storm caused severe damage by fallen trees in the cemetery.
