Jürg Meyer zur Capellen

Jürg Meyer zur Capellen (born August 18, 1941 in Göttingen ) is a German art historian .

Life

Meyer zur Capellen studied art history, archeology, history and Romance philology in Munich, Göttingen and Würzburg. In 1972 he was awarded a doctorate with a work on the Venetian painter Andrea Previtali (approx. 1480–1528) phil. PhD. From 1972 he was a research assistant and after his habilitation (with a monograph on Gentile Bellini ) from 1982 to 1988 private lecturer at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg . In 1987/88 he took over a professorship in Cologne. From the winter semester of 1988 he became a professor of art history at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . In 2006 he retired.

Meyer zur Capellen published numerous works on Italian painting, including works on Titian , Paolo Veronese and above all on Raffael . For several years he has led the Universities of Münster and Würzburg be moved Raphael project . Further publications dealt with the art of the 20th century, the European-Islamic cultural exchange and the Ottoman portrait. He made contributions to the magazine for art history , the art chronicle of the Central Institute for Art History and Bruckmann's Pantheon .

He was chairman of the Senate Committee for Art and Culture at the University of Münster, which campaigned for the collection of art objects in the university area. The result was summarized in the book Kunstraum Universität in 2002 and exhibited at the University of Münster as Kunstraum Universität: Kunst at the UniKunstTage 2002 .

Meyer zur Capellen lives in Münster.
