Jürgen F. Baur

Jürgen Fritz Baur (born September 12, 1937 in Tübingen ) is a German legal scholar and former university professor.

Life

Jürgen F. Baur, son of Fritz Baur , studied law at the universities of Tübingen , Munich and Göttingen after graduating from high school in 1956 . After the first state examination in law in 1960, he worked as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg from 1962 . A year later he completed his doctorate in Tübingen under the supervision of Ludwig Raiser. iur. from. In 1965 Baur passed his second state examination and in the same year took up a position as a scientific assistant to Ernst Steindorff at the University of Munich. In 1971 Baur completed his habilitation and received the venia legendi for subjects including civil law and business law.

In 1972 Baur took up a full professorship at the University of Hamburg . In 1988 he changed to the chair for civil law, business law and European law at the University of Cologne and was director of the Institute for the Law of the European Communities until his retirement in 2002. Until he moved to Cologne, Baur was also a judge at the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court in Hamburg . After his retirement, Baur worked as of counsel at the law firm Linklaters . Baur is recognized by his numerous publications as one of the leading experts on German and European energy law .

Baur's research focuses primarily on European business law as well as German and European energy law. In addition, the textbook on property law founded by his father Fritz Baur, which Jürgen F. Baur and Rolf Stürner is continuing in its 18th edition (October 2017), is one of the standard textbooks on property law .
