Jürgen Klimke (born July 2, 1948 in Hamburg ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 1982 to 2002 he was a member of the Hamburg parliament , from 2002 to 2017 he was a member of the German Bundestag .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1968, Klimke studied law at the University of Hamburg until 1976 . He then completed a journalistic traineeship and has been a journalist ever since . Klimke is chairman of the board of the PR agency Industrie-Contact AG in Hamburg.

Jürgen Klimke is a Protestant , married and the father of four children.

Political party

Klimke joined the CDU in 1970. From 1982 to 2003 he was deputy district chairman and from 2003 to 2008 chairman of the CDU district association Hamburg-Wandsbek . From 2004 to 2008 he was also deputy state chairman of the CDU in Hamburg.

MP

Klimke was a member of the district assembly of Hamburg-Wandsbek from 1974 to 1982 and was a member of the Hamburg citizenship from 1982 to 2002 . From 1985 to 2002 he was parliamentary managing director of the CDU parliamentary group.

From 2002 to 2017 Klimke was a member of the German Bundestag . From 2005 to 2009 he was chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group in the tourism committee, from 2009 chairman of the committee for economic cooperation and development. His regional focus is on South Asia and Southeast Asia . In the 18th legislative period , Klimke was also a full member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and was chairman of the United Nations, International Organizations and Globalization subcommittee. Klimke was also chairman of the Elbe working group of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group and deputy chairman of the German delegation to the parliamentary assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe ( OSCE ). In August 2015, Klimke was appointed the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly's first special envoy for the Baltic Sea region. Klimke performs numerous other functions. He is deputy chairman of the German Society for the United Nations eV (DGVN) , deputy chairman of the advisory board of the German Evaluation Institute of Development Cooperation, chairman of the Society of Friends of Morocco, member of the board of the Euro-Mediterranean-Arab Länderverein eV and member of the German Board of Trustees Youth For Understanding Komitees eV

Klimke was elected directly for the first time in the Hamburg-Wandsbek constituency in 2009. He received 36.5% of the valid first votes (Ingo Egloff, SPD, 34.8%) and represented since the only deputy that constituency in the German Bundestag until in March 2011 after the election of Olaf Scholz to Hamburg Mayor Ingo Egloff nachrückte for this . In 2002 and 2005 Klimke moved in via the CDU state list in Hamburg. In the 2013 federal election, he moved in again on the CDU Hamburg state list. Since the summer of 2012, Klimke and twelve other Union Members of the Bundestag have been campaigning publicly for tax equality for registered same-sex partnerships with marriage .

In September 2016, Klimke announced that he would no longer stand as a candidate in the 2017 federal election.
