Jürgen Voss (born September 24,  1941 in Lübeck ) is a former German boxer . He was German champion in amateur and professional boxing.

Life

In the amateur field he belonged to BC 59 Travemünde and won eleven Schleswig-Holstein national championship titles. In 1967 and 1969 he was German amateur champion in the weight class up to 63.5 kilograms and German runner-up in 1968 and 1971. In 1971 he was awarded the "Golden Ring of Honor", the highest association award, by the Schleswig-Holstein Amateur Boxing Association.  Voss, who works as a bricklayer , also boxed as an amateur for the TS Kaltenkirchen at times.

At the end of June 1973 Voss was in the ring for the first time as a professional boxer, his debut ended with a point win. Voss went into his first title fight with a match record of seven wins and one draw: at the beginning of June 1974 he defeated Klaus Steinmetz in the Lübeck Hansehalle and thus became German welterweight champion. "With a left hand, which is best classified in the 'murderous' category, the left-wing interpreter got the Berlin stonemason off his feet well over time," reported the Hamburger Abendblatt . In November 1974 he boxed  against the Swiss Max Hebeisen in Bern and lost for the first time in his career as a professional boxer.

Voss had to give up his German championship title in January 1975 when he lost to Horst Brinkmeier in Hamburg . The decision to abandon the fight to the disadvantage of Voss was controversial, as he had previously suffered a tear in the eyebrow when Brinkmeier was headbutted. At the end of October 1975 there was a rematch between Voss and Brinkmeier. This ended in a draw, which the Hamburger Abendblatt classified as “flattering” for Brinkmeier, who thus remained German champion.

In August 1976, at the age of 35, Voss challenged the German welterweight champion Jörg Eipel , who was significantly younger at the age of 18 , and lost the  fight held in Timmendorfer Strand . In December 1978 Voss became German champion again. In the fight for the vacant welterweight title, he defeated Alfred Fries on points in Lübeck . Voss then fought a fight as a professional boxer, which he lost in July 1979 in Spain against José Luis Pacheco.
