Jānis Grīnbergs (born March 18, 1971 in Riga ; in German-speaking countries also Janis Grinbergs ) is a former Latvian beach volleyball player .

Career

Grīnbergs played his first open tournaments in 1997 and 1998 with Jurijs Vlasovs . In 1999 he formed a new duo with Andris Krūmiņš . At the first European Championship participation Grīnbergs / Krūmiņš came in Getxo in the third round against the Norwegians Kjemperud / Høidalen and then eliminated against the Russians Karassew / Saifulin . A year later they fought their way through the losing round of the EM in Jesolo almost to the semi-finals before they were stopped by the Austrians Doppler / Gartmayer . In 2002 in Basel , Doppler and Gartmayer defeated the Latvian duo with new partners in three sets.

In the same year, Grīnbergs competed with Austris Stals for the first time . At the EM in Alanya , the Latvians prevailed in their group in front of two German duos and reached the quarter-finals, where Berger / Doppler were again too strong. In 2004 in Timmendorfer Strand they managed to win the group again and lost to Sweden Berg / Dahl in the tiebreak in the round of 16 . At the EM 2005 in Moscow they lost to two Spanish duos. In 2008 they are playing another Challenger tournament in Pärnu .

After an eight-year break, Grīnbergs has been sporadically active again at national tournaments since 2015.
