Johann Gottlieb Portmann
Johann Gottlieb Portmann (born December 4, 1739 in Oberlichtenau , † September 27, 1798 in Darmstadt ) was a German composer .
Life
Portmann was the son of a schoolmaster. Since his father died early, one of his fellow teachers took care of the boy's education. He made sure that he could attend the Kreuzschule in Dresden from 1751 . It was there that Portmann discovered his love for music and sang along at opera performances. The cantor Gottfried August Homilius taught him the basics of composition, so that he first studied theology at the University of Leipzig from 1759 , where his inclination for music gained influence. After completing his studies in 1765, he went to Amsterdam and Strasbourg . He finally turned to Darmstadt, where he lived in December 1766Tenorist and on May 12, 1769 cantor and collaborator at the local pedagogy. Portmann is said to have been the first to teach the structure of chords from thirds .
