Oberlichtenau is a former municipality in the Saxon district of Bautzen and has been a district of Pulsnitz since January 1, 2009 .
geography
Oberlichtenau is located about twelve kilometers southwest of the city of Kamenz and about 30 kilometers northeast of Dresden . Oberlichtenau is located in western Upper Lusatia in the Pulsnitz Valley , between the chain of hills of the Upper Lusatian hill country (highest elevation Keulenberg at 413 m), in the transition between the flat pond landscape in the north and the Lusatian mountains in the south.
The municipality of Oberlichtenau consisted of the two districts Oberlichtenau and Niederlichtenau. The local constitution did not apply to the municipality of Oberlichtenau.

All figures up to 2000 according to the entry in the historical directory of Saxony; 2008 according to the information from the State Statistical Office. Since the Pulsnitz was the border river between Saxony and Upper Lusatia until the beginning of the 19th century, Upper and Lower Lichtenau also divided into a Meissnian-Saxon and an Upper Lusatian-Bohemian part. On January 1, 2009, the independent municipality of Oberlichtenau became a district of the city of Pulsnitz.

Bible garden
The Bible Garden in Oberlichtenau is the first garden of its kind in Germany to display elements from biblical times. This garden was opened on June 8, 2005 and has been attracting school classes and community groups from various Christian churches ever since. Objects ( rock grave , Israelite altar , quarry crane, etc.) and plants from the biblical time are shown in an open space. The foundation stone for a Byzantine basilica was laid on May 20, 2006. The miniature basilica achieved 7th place in the competition for the German Tourism Prize 2007. The Bible Garden was named the best holiday address in the country in 2009 by the Saxon State Minister Frank Kupfer.

Oberlichtenau belongs to the Upper Elbe Transport Association . Bus routes 170 and 312 offer connections to the nearest train station, Pulsnitz on the Kamenz – Pirna railway line , four kilometers south of Oberlichtenau on weekdays . Line 170 also goes to the city of Kamenz , line 312 to Königsbrück station on the Königsbrück – Dresden railway line .
The A 4 can be reached via the Pulsnitz junction, around eight kilometers away .
