Jaak Aab
Jaak Aab (born April 9, 1960 in Taagepera , Estonian SSR ) is an Estonian politician . He belongs to the Estonian Center Party (Keskerakond) . From April 2005 to April 2007 he was Minister of Social Affairs and from June 2017 to May 2018 Minister of Public Administration of the Republic of Estonia. From April 2019, he also took over the latter position in the second cabinet of Jüri Ratas .
Life
Jaak Aab attended school in Ala ( Helme municipality in Valga county ) and in Viljandi . After graduating from high school in 1978, he studied Russian language and literature as a teacher at the Tallinn Pedagogical Institute ( Tallinna Pedagoogiline Instituut , now Tallinn University ) from 1978 to 1986 . From 1984 to 1991 he worked as a teacher in Ala and Võhma . Aab worked in Finland from 1991 to 1994 .
politics
Back in Estonia, Aab became politically active. From November 1994 to January 1996 he was Deputy Mayor of Võhma City. From August 1998 to February 2002 Aab held the post of Lord Mayor. A member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ) from February 2002 to March 2003 .
From July 2003 to April 2005 he was managing director of the Estonian City Council (Eesti Linnade Liit) before Prime Minister Andrus Ansip appointed him to his cabinet in 2005 . From April 13, 2005 to April 5, 2007, Jaak Aab was Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Estonia. Since April 2007, Aab has been a member of the Estonian Parliament and deputy chairman of the Social Committee.
On June 12, 2017, he was appointed Minister for Public Administration in the first cabinet of Prime Minister Jüri Ratas as the successor to Mihhail Korb . After just under a year in office, he was replaced by Janek Mäggi on May 2, 2018 . After the parliamentary elections in 2019 , he was reappointed Minister for Public Administration in the second cabinet of Jüri Ratas.
Private
Jaak Aab is married to the teacher Kaie Aab (* 1958). The couple have two daughters.
