Jaan Malin (pseudonym Luulur , born December 30, 1960 in Tartu ) is an Estonian poet .

Life

Jaan Malin was the son of the artist couple Ilmar and Inge Malin and went to school in Tartu, where he graduated from high school in 1979. From 1982 onwards he studied Estonian Philology at the University of Tartu and graduated in 1990 with a thesis on Ilmar Laaban . In the meantime he was employed at the Estonian Museum of Literature from 1979 to 1986 , after which he worked as a freelancer.

Jaan Malin has been a member of the Estonian Writers' Union since 1993 .

Literary work

Malin published his first poems in Looming magazine in 1981 and made his debut in 1990 with two volumes of poetry that received critical acclaim. She found parallels to “many good Estonian poets” such as Heiti Talvik , Andres Ehin , Hando Runnel , Artur Alliksaar or Paul-Eerik Rummo .

From the beginning, Malin has been mentioned as an important representative or continuation of Surrealism alongside Ilmar Laaban and Andres Ehin . In particular, the sound poetry of Laaban has found a worthy continuer in Malin, it that sometimes with Christian Morgenstern has been compared.

In addition, Malin regularly appears at poetry slams at home and abroad . In the meantime he is dubbed “King of Poetry Slam” in Estonia. In 2010 Malin published two volumes of poems for people, each dedicated to the members of two organizations, the Writers' Union and the Veljesto group. In 2015 he published his first novel, which according to the cover text is classified as an "asemantic novel".
