Jaap van der Wiel

Jaap van der Wiel (born October 28, 1960 - † May 11, 2012 in Dordrecht , South Holland ) was a Dutch football player who played for DS'79 in the Eredivisie . He succumbed to the consequences of a heart attack during an old man's game .

life and career

Van der Wiel played as an amateur in Dordrecht club ODS before it as a semi-professional - he continued to work in his profession as a paver - to DS'79, the temporarily renamed FC Dordrecht , changed. For the Dordrecht the striker played under coach Hans Dorjee already in the 1983/84 season in the top division, in a team with John Linford , Gerrie Mühren , Piet Wijnberg , Terry Lees and Geert Meijer . He scored two goals in 20 games, including one away game in Rotterdam's De Kuip at Feyenoord. DS'79 was relegated to the top division after one season and remained second class for the next three seasons. In 1987, the team with van der Wiel was able to defeat SC Cambuur 2-0 in the relegation round and thus rose again to the Eredivisie. Van der Wiel came on in the first game of the 1987/88 season , against FC Twente , after half-time when the score was 1: 1 for Leen van der Weel ; With a "flawless" hat trick , he ensured the 4-1 victory of the promoted team. In the further course of the season he scored seven more goals in 27 appearances; at the end of the season, DS'79 had to return to the second division. Van der Wiel remained active as a semi-professional for another season before moving back to the amateur camp in 1989.

Since the 1990s van der Wiel worked as a trainer in Dordrecht; initially for the youth of SC Stadspolders and after a merger with SC Gelukvogels at SC GSC. In 2008 he took over the club's first team. At the same time he was active as a player for the old men departments of FC Dordrecht and ODS. After an injury that left him sidelined for several months, he returned to the field on May 11, 2012. After about 20 minutes of the game against the peers of local rivals SC Emma, van der Wiel collapsed with a heart attack; Resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful.
