John Thomas "Jack" Cox (born December 21, 1877 in Liverpool , † November 11, 1955 in Walton-on-Thames ) was an English football player and coach. He played the late 19th and early 20th century for the Blackpool and Liverpool and was twice English champion.

Career

Jack Cox initially played for the amateur clubs South Shore Standard and South Shore FC, before he moved to Blackpool FC in the Football League Second Division , the second top division in England at the time , in 1897 . After the midfielder, who could play both on the left and on the right wing, scored twelve goals in 17 league games, he was committed to Liverpool in February 1898, where he experienced the high point of his career. In the 1900/01 season he contributed ten goals to the Reds' first championship title .

Even after Liverpool was relegated from the first division three years later, he remained loyal to the club, which was rewarded with a direct return and a second championship title in the following two years. He stayed with Liverpool until 1909 and played a total of 361 games in the league and in the FA Cup , in which he scored 79 goals. Then he went back to Blackpool FC, where he exercised the role of player- coach. In 1911 he ended his career, in which he was also able to book three appearances in the national team .
