Jack Lannan

Jack Lannan (born September 16, 1910 in Canada , † August 27, 1993 in San Diego , California ) was a Canadian - American special effects artist , assistant director and production manager , who was awarded a Technical Achievement Award in 1949 .

Life

Lannan first worked on a film in 1949. In the adventure and fantasy film Panik um King Kong , he was responsible for the production effects. In the same year he was awarded an Oscar for technical merits along with Marty Martin and Russell Shearman "for the development of a new method that simulates falling snow on the film set" ("For the development of a new method of simulating falling snow on motion picture sets ”).

For the crime drama On Dangerous Ground from 1951 with Ida Lupino and Robert Ryan he provided the special effects, as well as for the western Hot Breath from 1955 with Rory Calhoun and Shelley Winters . In 1958 he worked as production manager for the thriller Kilometer Stone 375 with Robert Mitchum and was also responsible for the special effects. From 1963 to 1965 he provided the special effects for 36 episodes of the sitcom Mein Unkel vom Mars and was assistant director for 25 episodes. In this capacity, he was also active in 47 episodes of the western series Daniel Boone with Fess Parker in the title role. He made his last film work in 1975 and 1976 for five episodes of the television series The Coast of the Crooks .
