Jack Off Jill was an American alternative rock band from Fort Lauderdale , Florida .

history

During their high school years together, Jessicka Fodera and Tenni Arslanyan began writing songs together. When Robin Moulder later joined as bassist and Michelle Oliver as guitarist, they finally founded the band Jack Off Jill in 1992. The band name combines the nursery rhyme about "Jack and Jill" that is widespread in English-speaking countries with the vulgar expression "to jack off" (" masturbate ").

The band had their first appearance in 1993 as an opening act for Marilyn Manson (then still "Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids"). Manson subsequently acted as a consultant for the band and also as a producer for the first demo recordings . He also worked occasionally as a guitarist for the band and let them continue to appear frequently as the opening act for his own band.

Both Manson's band and Jack Off Jill were known for their offensive and shocking performances. At one of their joint concerts in Jacksonville, Florida in December 1993 , Manson was arrested in the course of an undercover investigation for violating local moral laws . Jessicka was also arrested for inciting sexual abuse. Both were charged with the offenses of which they were charged.

It wasn't until 1997 that the band, after having released several singles and demo recordings with Manson's help, got a record deal with the Risk Records label. In the same year the first album Sexless Demons and Scars appeared with which the band then went on tour. The band was supported by Scott Putesky , the former guitarist Marilyn Mansons. Putesky was also involved in the production of the 1998 EP Covetous Creature , which consisted of remixes of tracks from the first album.

After the release of the second album Clear Hearts Gray Flowers in July 2000, the band split up. The reasons for this were conflicts between singer Jessicka and bassist Robin Moulder as well as the bankruptcy of their label, lack of commercial success, poor promotion of the new album, multiple changes of band members and management problems.

After the separation, the former founding members pursued their own music projects. Jessicka founded the band Scarling. , Michelle Oliver and Tenni Arslanyan play together in the band Set to Zero and Robin Moulder is active in the music project TCR .
