Jacob Axel Josephson

Jacob Axel Josephson (born March 27, 1818 in Stockholm , † March 29, 1880 in Uppsala ) was a Swedish composer.

Josephson studied in Uppsala from 1835. In 1841 he became a music teacher at the cathedral school. He continued his training from 1844 with Johann Gottlob Schneider in Dresden and then with Moritz Hauptmann and Niels Wilhelm Gade in Leipzig . From 1847 to 1849 he was conductor of the Philharmonic Society of Uppsala, from 1849 director musices , from 1853 director of the Orphei Drängar choir and from 1864 cathedral organist. In 1867 he founded the Cathedral Choir (Uppsala Domkyrkokör) .

He composed four symphonies , cantatas and festival music, choral works, piano pieces, duets and songs .
