Jacob Rosenheim

Jacob Rosenheim (also Jakob Rosenheim ; born November 5, 1870 in Frankfurt am Main ; † November 3, 1965 in Jerusalem ) was a German pioneer of Orthodox Judaism , author, publisher and co-founder and president of the Agudas Jisroel World Organization .

Life

Jacob Rosenheim grew up as the only son of the bookseller Elias Rosenheim and his wife Charlotte, née Kaufmann in Frankfurt. His parents were among the first adherents of the exit orthodoxy in the sense of Samson Raphael Hirsch . His mother was one of the first in the community to cover her hair according to Hirsch's standards. Jacob completed the secondary school of the Israelite Religious Society and a grammar school in Frankfurt.

Jacob Rosenheim was married to Gertrude, b. Straus, whose father, the Karlsruhe banker Samuel Straus, was one of the founding fathers of the exit movement. From 1906 to 1935 Rosenheim was editor of the Israelit and chairman of the Israelite Religious Society in Frankfurt am Main and then emigrated to England. From 1941 to 1950 he lived in exile in the USA and then went to Israel .
